Whitney is the first gym leader to have a gen 2 pokemon, and houndoom/tyranitar/skarmory/scizor/steelix are all locked to postgame, which is ridiculous. I don't dislike many of them either, but Charizard, Blastoise, Scyther, and Rhydon are really the only gen 1 pokemon I absolutely *love*.Дў: They hide away all the new pokemon and the level curve is terrible. Also, I don't love a ton of gen 1 pokemon. The sprites and mechanics were fixed in the remakes but the routes are still pretty bland IMO. The region is very flat and the only route that really speaks to me is the seaside path from Lavender town to Fuschia. The sprites are pretty hit-or-miss, and the back sprites are almost universally terrible. Poison types are immune to Lance's dragonite because it thinks agility is super effective, for example. I give 1/2 a lot of credit for starting the series, and I still like 1/2 because I enjoy all pokemon games, but specifically:ДЎ: Mechanics are janky, weird, and bad. It's the use of an important but small-scale, targeted problem to control as many people as possible. The interesting part is how they're targeting something that seems like a more immediate problem to most people, because generally the characters in pokemon games are either villains or love their pokemon. I don't think there's any way that anyone in Team Plasma could be right, because they're taking extremist actions when the circumstances just don't justify it. Same goes for farming, a lot of people like to say it's pretty fucked up to raise an animal just to kill it, but in a proper farm an animal can be given a life that is both longer and higher quality than it could realistically hope to have in the wild before it's slaughtered. You can certainly subjugate an animal and bend it to your will, but an animal can also literally just be a companion. It's like saying keeping pets is immoral.

Team Plasma made it a little too Black and White, first of all, believing that there could be no mutually beneficial relationship revolving around a human and a pokemon captured in a pokeball. I mean, I would say that many characters don't though.
